A Brand That's Literally Telling WOC to Liberate Themselves Through Radical Self-Care

We had the honor of interviewing a very unique wellness brand founded by Mariam Mouna called "I See You Wellness". Not just a natural beauty brand, but a self-care brand that on a mission to revolutionize the way women of color experience the world through radical healing.

CHECK OUT ALL THIS GOODNESS ....

WHAT IS "I SEE YOU WELLNESS"? WHAT IS THE PREMISE OF THE BRAND?

I See You Wellness is a service and product brand I created to empower Women of Color through Accessible Wellness and Radical Self Care. Throughout my journey (and without even realizing it) I yearned to find a community who could SEE me for who I am, especially before I could see myself, but I was not in a nurturing space, it was quite the opposite actually. After years of darkness and battles, I let go of my big advertising agency job to literally save myself— mentally, physically and emotionally. I had no idea what I was going to do but I knew that I needed to empower other women and tell them that it gets better, that I See Them. I want women to dig deeper, to choose Self Love and Self Care above anything else, to go against the “norms” and to follow their intuition—to me, that’s liberation. I liberated myself and my intention is to guide others as they do the same for themselves.

WHY IS YOUR BRAND GEARED TOWARDS WOC?

Because I truly, deeply believe that Women of Color will change the world. We are the gatekeepers of all Magic—ancestral and contemporary. And trust me, to save this world we live in, we’re going to need ALL the Magic. Women of Color are extremely powerful, they are born that way and carry magic in their blood. No matter what life serves them, they make magic out of it… If only they can SEE their own power. Women of Color give so much, but it’s time to give to Self. My purpose is to gently help them tap into their power by radically loving and caring for themselves. I went through this process alone, but they don’t have to—that’s why I’m here.

WHAT'S AN AFFIRMATION AND WHY ARE THEY SO IMPORTANT? ESPECIALLY FOR WOC?

An affirmation is a practice of positive thinking and self-empowerment, they help us reprogram our minds and cleanse negative perceptions and conditioning we’ve been served up to this point. An affirmation is an extremely powerful and accessible tool, I always tell women of color to start there. It’s simple: write down your wildest, most empowering statement about yourself and read it every day until you believe it. We create our own reality and now that we have each other, there’s no stopping us—and I am SO here for this revolution! We’ve been told we’re not worthy, no beautiful enough, not “whatever” enough… people projecting their own insecurities onto us… when we affirm ourselves, we fill our own cup, we empower ourselves with our own divine words, so when society tells us a LIE, we don’t identify with it—we change the narrative and reclaim our power.

DESCRIBE THE PRODUCTS THAT YOUR BRAND OFFERS? WHAT ARE THE CORE INGREDIENTS?

I call my products “Self Care Products”, they are a combination of skincare, body care and soul care products designed to help you start or deepen your Self Care practice by infusing magic in your everyday life. They are handmade, all natural, non-toxic and high-vibrational—they are also Reiki-infused. I See You Products are designed to raise your vibrations and help you stay aligned and connected to your intuition so that you can move through life with ease and confidence. I use simple high-quality products like Argan Oil, Moroccan Rose Water and Moroccan Black Soap (the only soap that doesn’t have lye!) with a combination of organic essential oils and herbs. I make them with love and intention and I literally infuse a little piece of myself into each product—that’s what makes them unique in my opinion. I’m originally from Morocco, so I carry plant medicine wisdom within me. Moroccan women are very advanced when it comes to Self Care and plant medicine, this only clicked for me recently when I tapped into my own power—and my mission is to share that wisdom with my sisters.

WHAT INSPIRES YOU THE MOST AS A WOC?

I used to look for inspiration in particular places, but not anymore. I now find inspiration everywhere! Life in general is so inspiring if you take a moment to see its beauty, its stillness, its nonchalance. Life just keeps going… like a flower, it does not care about what’s happening around it, it simply blooms! Our mere existence is so inspiring to me. Like… how the hell did we even get here? For our souls to form and inhabit our bodies, for our brains to produce thoughts and learn languages, for our ability to love no matter what, and the fact that we’re all standing on this tiny blue planet floating in the vast universe… *mind blown* that’s so inspiring to me, I LOVE IT. Every time I feel down, I watch Cosmos with Neil Degrasse Tyson and remember what a gift life is.

WHAT'S YOUR (NEGATIVE AND/OR POSITIVE) OBSERVATIONS OF WOC IN THE WELLNESS SPACE?

Women of Color are doing god’s work in the wellness space. People like Lauren Ash of Black Girl in Om, Jessamyn Stanley of Every Body Yoga, The Trap Witch, Tatianna Tarot and sooo many other powerful women stepping into their power and helping their sisters… I’m so inspired by all of them. There’s a sense of community, support and sisterhood, we’re all doing our part to raise the collective consciousness. We’re all staying in our lanes while cheering each other on on the sidelines. Most importantly, we’re not just preaching wellness, we’re embodying it—and that’s key. We are living by example which is very powerful for our community, because SEEING is believing. Most importantly, we are demystifying wellness by making it accessible to everybody. I’m grateful for this community, I feel safe speaking up and being my unapologetic self because I know I’m not alone, we’re all in this together.
